I try to get to the gym five times a week. My body is getting older and needs to be exercised to stay healthy. It is important to be active so that I can continue to write, teach God’s word, and preach. The goal is to be able to minister for Christ till the Rapture or death.
Paul had the same perspective. First Corinthians 9:24-27 states, “24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
Paul wanted to finish strong. He desired to always be fit to preach the gospel. He never wanted to lose the right to preach God’s word.
Each one of us has a unique ministry that God has given us. We need to make ourselves ready for the opportunities to share God’s word with others. Spiritually does that mean more time in prayer, Bible study, stepping out and sharing Christ with others? Whatever it is, GET BUSY!
