Our History
The Wasilla Senior Center Program started in the basement of the Wasilla Museum in 1978 as a drop-in center. A part-time program under the direction of the Salvation Army Senior Citizens Program, it quickly grew to offer lunches and the occasional social activity in the vacant rooms of the old Wasilla Elementary School.
In 1981, through a combination of legislative appropriation, and funding from the Mat-Su Borough and City of Wasilla our campus was constructed on 3 acres of land donated by Frank D. Smith. WASI was incorporated as a non-profit that same year, to provide members with a legal entity and single voice in the community.
